Custom DFARS 316 Stainless Steel Screws

Custom DFARS 316 Stainless Steel Screw Manufacturers
These custom DFARS 316 stainless steel screws were manufactured domestically with plain finish for our marine unmanned vehicle manufacturing customer.  The two sizes shown here are 8-32 X 7/18 and 10-32 X 5/8, both fully threaded.  The hex socket drive is broached on both sizes for fast turnaround - cold headed version provides better cost per piece but requires a longer lead time.  Full certs were provided with the parts.

Custom 316 Stainless Steel Socket Head Screws

Custom 316 Stainless Steel Socket Head Screws
These are custom 316 stainless steel socket head cap screws at 10-32 X 1/2 and 10-32 X 3/8 in dimensions, manufactured domestically at a small batch of approximately 100 pieces.  The parts were completed in a relatively quick turnaround time-frame of approximately 4 weeks from order, especially considering the holiday timing.  To allow for the small quantity and speed the hex socket drive was broached instead of using a cold headed approach.  You can see evidence of this at the inside of the recess drive where you would see machining marks instead of the typical clean concave interior seen in cold headed parts.

Custom 316 Stainless Tapered Head Screws - 10-13 X 1.75" Thread Forming Screws With Gimlet Point & Custom Rounded Tapered Hex Head

Custom 316 Stainless Tapered Head Screws - 10-13 X 1.75" Thread Forming Screws With Gimlet Point & Custom Rounded Tapered Hex Head
These custom 316 stainless tapered head screws turned out to be a very tricky part - while the 10-13 thread and gimlet point were easy to incorporate, the custom head was a tough problem to solve.  A 10 degree taper was required on the hex flats and the corners rounded.  A rounded profile on a vertical cross-section of the head was also required to allow the screw to rotate while still maintaining hex head engagement.  It took three rounds of tooling to finally get the head shape just right and fit the application requirements our customer desired.  Domestic production of this part was set at 50,000 pcs with a lead time of 8-12 weeks.
